Ban on boondocking at Wal-Mart is postponed

Livermore California's City Council is debating whether to ban RVs from overnight stays and camping in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store on Las Positas Road, and to prohibit sales of recreational vehicles on the lot's eastern end.

But it postponed action on the Planning Commission's proposal to prohibit overnight boondocking in the Wal-Mart lot, except by store employees, and to ban RV sales by special-event promoters who lease parking lot space from Wal-Mart.

Councilwoman Marj Leider said overnight parking in the Wal-Mart lot has created some security problems, citing among other things an October 2002 assault of a 65-year-old Michigan man in his motor home parked there. Full Story...
