RV shipments dip second straight month

RV wholesale shipments dipped in May for the second straight month, Recreation Vehicle Industry Association reported.

Shipments totaled 31,500 units, down 3.4 percent from May 2004.

Motorhome deliveries declined 8.3 percent from 2004, while towables dropped 2.3 percent.

The industry maintained a 1.2 percent increase from a year ago through the first five months with 163,200 units shipped.

For the second straight month, travel trailer shipments represented the lone product category to post gains over last year, fueled in part by continued demand in the entry-level sector. For the month, travel trailer deliveries were up 2.8 percent to 14,800 units while the sector enjoyed an 11 percent gain year-to-date with 77,500 units, shipped compared with 69,800 a year earlier.

Overall motorhome shipments totaled 5,500 in May, compared with 6,000 in 2004.
