Airstream trailers still an icon and special to thier owners

Bob Cornute of Saratoga Springs dotes on his two vintage Airstreams. He calls them 'the world's biggest tinker toys.' And he is a tinkerer. He knows the heavy owners manual chapter and verse, and has conquered his Airstreams' multiple intricacies.

Luckily for him, his wife Carmen was a Girl Scout in her native Jamaica. There was no arm-twisting incentive to get her on the road.

The Cornutes splurged on a 31-foot International in 1981. A year later, they joined the Hudson-Mohawk unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI) and they haven't looked back. Now retired, the couple goes on as many rallies and caravans with their group as possible. Bob is now assistant vice president of the local group, the couple's scrapbooks filled with more than 20 years of on the road adventure.

Membership in WBCCI is open only to owners of Airstreams. And ownership is considered a privilege to those who have discovered the open road and the people who populate it. Full Story...
