Motorhome rally lures thousands to Perry GA
Perry Georgia's population is expected to increase - temporarily, at least - by more than 10,000 people this month as motorhome enthusiasts descend on the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter for a convention.
The gathering of the Family Motor Coach Association will bring in more than 5,000 motor homes and 10,000 to 12,000 people, according to a release from the association.
It's the fairground's second largest regularly scheduled event, behind the Georgia National Fair, said Michael Froehlich, executive director of the fairgrounds.
"The rally itself is a tremendous economic boom for not only central Georgia but actually the entire state," Froehlich said.
A study by the fairgrounds estimated that the event has a statewide economic impact of about $30 million, Froehlich said. That's nearly the economic impact of the fair.
