Alfa motor home swerved off Highway crashed in to Home

On Sunday afternoon, drivers occasionally stopped to look at what resembled the aftermath of a tornado. The house was boarded up, with a gaping hole in the roof and a deep crack running along the side. Children's toys lay strewn about the front yard next to piles of trash, insulation, glass and a mangled metal fence.

But it was not a force of nature that ripped through a Stanislaus County home the night before. Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, a 2006 Alfa motor home swerved off Highway 99, in California and crashed into a house on Pecos Avenue north of Ceres.

No one was in the house at the time of the accident, but the driver, Stephen Quance, sustained injuries to his neck and head. Quance, 56, of Bremerton, Wash., was taken to Doctors Medical Center and was in critical condition Sunday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Quance lost consciousness while driving north on Highway 99. His foot got stuck on the gas pedal, according to the CHP report.
