Residents Angry Over Proposed RV Park

Fawnskin, California - Bear Valley Recreation and Park District Director Reese Troublefield survived his first meeting April 17. Fingers wagged and tempers flared at the park district meeting as residents of Fawnskin made it clear they don’t want a recreational vehicle park or campground at Dana Point Park.

Close to 50 people crammed into the Bear Valley Senior Center after word spread the park district plans to turn Dana Point into a RV park. Troublefield said the RV park was just an idea he expressed to others at the park district and to John Saunders, owner of Captain John’s Fawn Harbor Marina. Saunders is in lease negotiations with the park district, which owns Dana Point and leases the marina property to Saunders. Saunders said he was upset when he saw park district crews surveying Dana Point. Troublefield said the stakes were placed to gather information on the feasibility of the plan.

Marlene Thurston was one of more than 50 concerned citizens who attended the park district meeting. Thurston said traffic created by an RV park would diminish the quality of life that people move to Fawnskin for. She raised environmental concerns, including questions about water for the campground. Thurston said its unfair to build and RV park with the Valley under water restrictions.
