Bees Close Jumbo Rocks Campground

JTNP — Joshua Tree National Park announced this week that Jumbo Rocks campground is temporarily closed due to increased bee activity.

During the closure dumpsters will be replaced and bee activity will be monitored.

Jumbo Rocks campground is scheduled to reopen on noon, Tuesday, July 31 unless the bees continue to pose a threat to public safety.

Other park campgrounds remain open including Cottonwood, Black Rock, Indian Cove, Belle and Hidden Valley. Bees are attracted to campsites and dumpsters.

Visitors in campgrounds and picnic areas can reduce the threat of bee stings by not leaving soda cans and water bottles out to attract foraging bees.
