Truck driver is killed after his big rig rear-ends a motor home
KINGSBURG CA -- A crash Sunday night left a truck driver dead and led to the temporary shutdown of Highway 99 in both directions Sunday night.
Both the 1985 motor home, which was towing a boat and trailer, and the 1999 Freightliner semi-truck were heading north on Highway 99 when the truck hit the motor home from behind.
It is unknown why the truck rear-ended the motor home, which was traveling about 50 mph.
The force of the crash caused the motor home, driven by 48-year-old Theodore Bard of Palmdale, CA, to overturn and partially block the northbound lanes.
The big rig swerved off the highway and through a fence, then crashed into two power poles. Then flipped on its side and continued to skid across the parking lot of a gas station, striking two other big rigs.
The truck driver died en route to a Fresno hospital.
