RV Camping - Today's Call of the Wild
“People have always camped... usually because they had to, sometimes because it was fun,” said Mark Rogers, who owns 1/2 Mile Ranch in Lake Luzerne. “Today, people mostly camp because they like it.”
Recreational camping itself, however, has also undergone something of a transformation over the last few decades.
“In our first year, it was nothing but tent campers,” said Noelani DeRossett, whose family has owned Lake George Schroon Valley Resort in Warrensburg for 14 years. “Now, it’s going the other way.”
“Tents are probably one-third of my business and RVs are probably two-thirds,” said Rogers, who owned a campground in New Jersey for nine years before reopening the previously closed 1/2 Mile Ranch this summer.
“The biggest obvious change is in the size of the trailers. It’s gotten to be ridiculous,” said Tina Fitzgerald of Mt.
