Campers Put Out by Budget Troubles

Donna and Edward Fromhagen were not happy campers Sunday afternoon.

They'd been told they had to pack up and leave Gogebic State Park in the western Upper Peninsula because of a looming state government shutdown. Park personnel went around at midday informing campers they could stay the night, but if the Legislature didn't reach an agreement by 9 p.m., water and electricity would be cut off, the toilets and showers closed and campers would have to leave first thing in the morning.

"This is just crap," an angry Jim Lefevre said. "My daughter gave us this trip as my birthday present, and she paid for it when she made the reservation back in May. In Minnesota, we don't know anything about your budget problems. These (expletive deleted) should have called us if they thought they'd close the parks."
