Rally unites motor coach owners on So California

The Western Motor Home Association's Western Area Rally returned this week to entertain travelers who fuel the economic engine of the east Coachella Valley to the tune of about $3 million.

More than 1,300 motor coaches are expected to fill the Riverside County Fairgrounds, the host site, through Sunday.

Last year, 1,700 RVs registered for the rally, Rick Ricordati, an association vice president, said. About 400 fewer registered this year.

Ricordati surmised weather and gas prices were to blame for the decreased attendance.

"People got snowed in in Colorado and Wyoming," he said. "I think fuel costs probably had something to do with it, too."
