Airstream 'Ranch' Along Florida Interstate Revving up Controversy

A month ago, RV dealer Frank Bates planted eight Airstream trailers nose-first on 5 acres along I-4. His inspiration was the famous Cadillac ranch in Texas.

"There is no other trailer that looks like it, there is no other trailer made like it. It is really an American icon," said Bates, whose towering trailers have been turning heads of motorists like Zeke Zielinski.

Not everyone thinks the attraction is attractive. Brian Connell lives across the street from the Airstream ranch.

"I think it looks trashy," said Connell. He feels Bates is trying to "steer in" more business to his RV dealership up the road.

"He is calling it art... [but] the Cadillac ranch does not have any Cadillacs for sale next door to it," Connell said.
