New RVs feature luxury for less

EDMONTON - Lugging around a heavy vacuum cleaner is a thing of the past for many homeowners, and the same holds true for RVers whose increasingly luxurious units boast everything from central vac systems to washers, dryers and giant flat-screen televisions.

Even tent trailers offer far more now than nylon walls and mosquito netting, said Dieter Bohl, with Cars RV & Marine, as he showed off a Starcraft unit at the Edmonton RV show and sale recently.

"You're going to tent in style in this one," said Bohl of the folding camping trailer that had air conditioning and a complete bathroom with shower and toilet. "It's not like they used to be in the old days."

In Alberta's sizzling economy where many consumers have money to burn, price might not be an issue. But whether it matters or not, dealers at the show said the cost of RVs is down, thanks to a strong Canadian dollar.
