One Woman's Impressions of Slab City, CA

Slab City is a deserted military base near Niland in Southeastern CA and gets its name from the concrete slabs remaining after its decommissioning after World War II . It was discovered by RVers in the late 1960's. Many hundreds of RVers visited "The Slabs" during the winter months and some stay all summer despite the 120 degree temperatures. It is like a small city and there is no charge to stay here. There is a church, library, you can get your newspaper, water and propane delivered. UPS even delivers here!
