Price of Gas Fuels Disgust Among Florida Snowbirds

As some of the snowbirds who have hunkered down in Southwest Florida for the winter prepare for their annual trek north, gas prices are on the way up as well.

On a rainy Saturday afternoon, a handful of recreational vehicle owners who are planning on heading out in the coming days and weeks said rising gas prices aren’t going to affect their planned trips home.

They have to get home of course, regardless of the price of gas.

But some RV owners said higher gas prices have affected their spending habits over the winter, and could affect future travel plans.

On Saturday, the average price of unleaded gas in the Fort Myers-Cape Coral area was $3.36 a gallon, up from $3.22 a gallon a month ago and $2.64 a year ago, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The average price of diesel fuel was $4.04 a gallon, up from $3.55 a month ago and $2.76 a year ago.http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif

“Of course it affects our budget, but I don’t think it will affect our travel plans,” said Alex McKenzie, 67.
