Texas State park still suffering from last year's floods

Mother Neff State Park reopened Saturday for daytime hiking and picnicking for the first time since last summer, when a three-month flood swamped the heart of the park up to 20 feet deep.

But if you’re wanting to camp or hold a special event there anytime soon, forget it.

An estimated $1.7 million is needed to restore the historic rock buildings and move the campground out of the Leon River flood plain. State parks officials don’t know when they’ll be able to scrape together that kind of money. Texas has too many pressing park needs, and Mother Neff is not a high priority, they say.
