Camping: A More Affordable Vacation

With gas prices expected to continue to climb this summer, vacationers in the Poconos are staying local and staying longer. It's a trend that is saving people money when they visit the mountains.

The staff at Keen Lake Campground near Waymart is getting ready for another season of camping, making sure every campsite and every pipe survived the winter.

Owner Jennifer Wertz is getting ready for a busy summer and the spots are filling up fast.

"We're seeing a high demand for seasonal camping, which means they bring their trailer, they leave it here for the season, and they come and go as they please," Wertz said.

She said soaring gas prices are the reason for the all-summer stays.

The Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau said they are seeing the same trend all over the area, people are vacationing closer to home, but longer.
