Minnesota's Whitewater State Park re-opens after flood

ELBA -- Randy Collins edged his 39-foot motorhome around a tight curve in the Whitewater State Park campground Friday and backed his Bounder unit into place.

"Good thing we got here early," joked the Prior Lake, Minn., man, who was one of the first campers to arrive.

It was a slow start to getting the well-known park near Elba back into operation after August's huge flood shut down all camping, hiking and other activities.

The park is slowly getting back to normal, and on Friday it took another huge step with the first day of camping since August. Rain slowed the comeback.
