4 Coastal Campgrounds Open near Brookings, OR

Four Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest campgrounds on the Chetco River on the coast of Southern Oregon have been opened for the season.

Miller Bar, Nook Bar, Redwood Bar and South Fork Camp are all on the recreation portion of the Wild and Scenic Chetco River, and all are on Forest Road 1376 within a 30-minute drive from Brookings.

Each site will have trash dumpsters and portable toilets through Sept. 5. Camping fees are $5.

A proposed $10 fee may be implemented sometime during the summer.

Installation and construction work on a new toilet will start at Miller Bar sometime during the summer. No water is available.

To get to the campgrounds from Brookings, turn east off U.S. Highway 101 onto the North Bank Chetco River Road. which will become Forest Service 1376.

Ludlum Campground, a barrier free-campground, is open along Wheeler Creek, along the Winchuck River, also about a 30-minute drive from Brookings. The Little Redwood and Winchuck Campgrounds on the Chetco River and the Illahe Campground on the Rogue River will not open this year. The day-use area at Winchuck Campground will be open, however.
