Motor home fire briefly closes Vermont Interstate

BRATTLEBORO -- Vermont State Police and Brattleboro Fire Department responded to a fire in a motor home on Interstate 91 Thursday morning.

When emergency workers arrived, the engine compartment of the truck was fully involved. The fire spread to the can and the cargo area, so the truck was a total loss, police said.

Owner Osman Ozkan, 43, from Newport, N.H., was not injured in the fire. A trailer being towed by the truck was not damaged.

The cause was most likely a blown transmission line, police said, which caused transmission fluid to leak onto the vehicle's hot exhaust system.

Police shut down the right lane of the highway for roughly two hours to handle the incident.

Vermont Agency of Transportation came out to spread sand on the leaked transmission fluid.
