Rock Valley, Iowa Opens New Campground

KTIV - Sioux City,IA,USA
In the works for three years, Rivers Bend Campground in Rock Valley, Iowa is set to open this Memorial Day weekend.

The one and a half million dollar campground is owned by the city, but an Iowa tourism grant and the donated land from Van Zee Enterprises made the project possible.

Kent Eknes, Mayor, "They had used these pits for gravel and sand and when they had utilized what all was available, they really didn't need it anymore so they donated about 92 acres to the city with the understanding that we would develop it into a campground."

The campground features three large ponds, one for swimming and two for fishing and other recreational activities.

There are full-utility sites and tent sites in more wooded areas of the campground.

It also features biking and walking trails which will take you into downtown Rock Valley.

Eknes, "We think there's a lot of benefits to living in a small town, but sometimes people think it's not as exciting as living in a city and people can drive for that. These are the kind of quality of life projects that we like to just enhance people's living experience."
