Ultra-luxury RV resort gets Franklin Township, PA planners' recommendation

An Allentown developer proposing a luxury camping resort in Carbon County has cleared a major hurdle in the project.

The Franklin Township Planning Commission on Thursday recommended that the township supervisors and engineer allow Victor Frye's two-phase plan for the project, off Route 209 near the Mahoning Valley interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The $10.9 million, camping resort would start with a first phase of up to 55 luxury camping vehicles of 340 square feet each, equipped with stainless-steel kitchens. They would be on 25 acres on the lower part of Frye's land.

The second phase, which Frye would pursue if the first phase is successful, could have room for up to 120 more $350-a-night campers on a second 25 acres.
