Tuscaloosa, AL to consider converting trailer park to upscale subdivision for motor homes

“We think it’s a real good reuse of an old, blighted property,” said Deputy Director of Planning and Economic Development John McConnell. “It’s a good tool to revitalize a blighted property.”

Part of the property is zoned to allow mobile homes. The remainder of the property must be rezoned from various commercial and residential zonings to RMH zoning for mobile homes.

Brian Hurd, owner of Park Place LLC, requested the rezoning. McConnell told the City Council that he wants to subdivide it into lots that motor home owners can buy. The development will be gated and heavily landscaped, and marketed toward University of Alabama football and sports fans.

During the last few years, the city has grappled with how to accommodate recreational vehicle users during football season. Several areas were once used to park RVs are no longer used for that purpose. And city and UA regulations prevent RV owners from leaving their vehicles in town throughout the season.
