Motorhome generator sparks blaze in Oregon campground

Firefighters responded to Incident #412, a new wildfire burning in the Skull Hollow Campground on the Crooked River National Grassland.

Crews from the Bureau of Land Management and Jefferson County Fire are working to control the two-acre fire ignited by a motorhome generator. The motorhome is fully engulfed and continues to burn, challenging fire crews.

Several campsites have been evacuated, but no injuries are reported at this time. The fire is burning in grass and scattered junipers.

The campground is located on the Southeast edge of the Crooked River National Grasslands, a district of the Ochoco National Forest. Skull Hollow Campground is approximately 17 miles Northeast of Prineville off U.S. Hwy 26.

This incident reinforces the need for campers and visitors to take extra care while recreating on public lands in Central Oregon.
