RV park's fire safety plan gets county OK

A Portland entrepreneur has resolved a potentially costly dispute with Cowlitz County over his yet-to-open RV park north of Castle Rock.

The county’s building department had wanted Charlie Curry to install three additional fire hydrants at his Toutle River RV Resort, a sprawling, $5 million complex with room for up to 800 RVs.

Curry insisted the county had signed off on his fire safety plan years ago and threatened to sue. Installing the extra hydrants, he said, would cost at least $150,000 and delay his resort’s opening.

This week, Dave Flemings, the county’s fire marshal, said the county won’t force Curry to put in the additional hydrants.
