Transfer of Veteran Camp Hosts Triggers Old Memories

Grant County Press - Petersburg,WV,USA
Seneca Shadows Campground area managers and Arkansas natives Dean and Peggy Lufkin have been doing their job here for seven years. Now it's time for them to pack up and transfer to a new location in Florida, and their soon-coming departure is triggering many old memories.

Dean and Peggy have spent most of their summers camping.

They began camp hosting in the 50s. Twin Acres, Whitehouse, Ohio, was their first campground as well as the one they hosted the longest. "It was a mom and pop thing," said Peggy.

Unlike Seneca Shadows, Dean and Peggy usually worked at Twin Acres on weekends only. Seneca Shadows opens in April and closes at the end of October, but the couple arrives in March to get the campground ready and stays until November to close it down. They then go to Arkansas for the winter and work for the corps.
