Vandalism and thefts reported at campground

Carman Valley Leader - Carman,Manitoba,Canada
Two complaints of vandalism and three reports of theft were reported last week at the campground in King’s Park in Carman.

Cst. Antoinette Carpenter of the Carman Area RCMP said a fire was lit in a garbage can in the campground’s men’s shower on July 3 at approximately 5:45 p.m.

“Three to four males, ages 12 to 14 were seen running from the campground shower building,” said Carpenter. “Moments later a fire was discovered in the garbage can in the male shower building and one of the campers was able to extinguish it.”
Carpenter said there was no damage to the building, and no one has been charged in the incident.

The building’s storage/electrical room was broken into, although Carpenter said nothing was damaged or stolen.

Reports of incidences of minor theft from three separate campsites between midnight on July 2 and the afternoon of July 3 were also received.

“We’re just asking that campers keep tabs on their belongings,” Carpenter said. “(The thieves) are not actually going into the tents or trailers, it’s just the sites.”
