Monroe County, SC, campground, resort could close

The owner of a large campground and resort in Monroe County has informed state officials that the site will close Sept. 29, putting 244 employees out of work, if a sale of the facility doesn't close by then.
Van Der Molen Recreational Properties Inc., part of Carol Stream, Ill., property development firm Van Der Molen Corp., is trying to sell the Three Bears Resort and Jellystone Park campground in Warrens, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter filed last week.
The company also informed the state that health care coverage for employees will also be terminated Sept. 29, if the facility isn't sold.
The site includes a 93-room resort, a 500-unit campground and indoor and outdoor water parks. Van Der Molen is in discussions with several potential buyers that could result in some or all of the facility being sold, according to a report from the La Crosse Tribune.
