Nor Cal Campgrounds ready for Labor Day campers

Campground managers around the north state are bracing for a busy weekend after what has been a slow year, caused by a long, smoky fire season.

By Wednesday afternoon, many prime campsites at Whiskeytown Lake, Lake Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park had been scooped up for the weekend by campers with reservations. But officials said those without a reservation looking for a place to camp should be able to find a spot.

That spot could be in one of the many campgrounds around Trinity and Lewiston lakes, said Jeanne Hodge, co-owner of Hodge Management, which runs the Trinity and Lewiston campgrounds for the U.S. Forest Service.
