A good season for camping for City Campground

Tower Timberjay News - Tower,MN,USA
In spite of a slow spring, McKinley Park Campground had a good season, according to campground managers Susie and Jerry Chiabotti.

ìIt was the busiest August we can remember,î they said, of their five summers managing the park.

The campground is owned by the township, but managed under a private contract. Profits from the camping fees are split, under the contract, between the township and the manager.

At Wednesdayís Breitung Town Board meeting, the Chiabottis asked the board to wait until October to set campground rates for 2009. By early October, campground receipts and expenses for the year will have been tabulated.

Chiabottis said that the number of seasonal campers opting to keep their RVs at the park over winter is up from last year. The township charges a winter storage fee and requires that the campers provide proof of insurance on the campers. Seasonal campers also must pre-pay for a portion of their next summerís campground fee.

Campground rates were mostly kept at 2007 levels in 2008. Township officials will be looking at projected costs for electricity and propane when considering whether or not to raise rates for 2009.
