Persistence and caring. Strong people skills. And satisfied customers.

Those were the simple foundations of Jerry Brookbank's 44 years as a salesman for Tom Raper RVs, a career that saw him sell an estimated 6,000 recreational vehicles.

"You have to give glory to God," said his wife, Nancy. "He could really sell. He had a gift."

That gift was based on making customers happy. "You have to treat them right," Jerry Brookbank said. "I never had any real mad customers. They'd come back and talk to me."

Some customers bought four or five recreational vehicles and encouraged other friends and family members to buy from him.

Brookbank stepped back for good at age 76 after being slowed by a back operation and a broken foot.

He worked part-time for many years, representing the bridge from the beginning to today.
