Camper explosion hurts three

An explosion seriously burned two men and torched a camper Saturday afternoon at Hidden Lakes Campground.

The campground, at 4460 S. N.C. 54, is in southeastern Alamance County several miles southeast of Swepsonville.

Campground owner J.R. Majors said the explosion happened as Bernard Felder and Jimmy Ritter were trying to light the furnace in Felder's camper.

The explosion quickly consumed the camper and severely burned Felder and Ritter. Despite burns on her hands, Felder's wife drove the two men to the UNC Hospitals, were they remain.
