Campground Owner Wants State Park to Raise Fees

Recently, a private business owner requested that a resolution be made by the Board of County Commissioners, the intent of which was to help the business owner maintain a higher than necessary price structure over what he believed was unfair competition from the federal government. The private business operation was an RV resort in Chokoloskee and the supposedly unfair federal operation was the Collier Seminole State Park, off U.S. 41 East. It seems they both cater to RV owners and one is considerably lower in price than the other.

The RV resort charges nearly $70 per night to allow someone to park their gas guzzling monster on a sliver of land just south of Everglades City. The park charges about $20 per night for a similarly sized spot.

The resort owner attempted to have the Board of County Commissioners endorse a resolution to demand that the park service “…revise its rental campground rates in order to operate on a comparable price fee schedule with local business.”
