Bill would end bans on living in motor homes

With foreclosures soaring, however, some state lawmakers fear more plain folks forced from their homes will have no choice but set up house in their motor homes.
Problem: Many cities and counties, including Pierce County, prohibit us from living permanently in RVs even in mobile home parks.
Enter House Bill 1227.
“In this current housing environment and the economic reality we are in, there will be an increased incidence of people living in their recreational vehicles,” said bill sponsor Rep. Larry Springer, D-Kirkland, “and I don’t want cities or counties to preclude mobile home parks from allowing (RV dwellers) to situate on a quasi-permanent basis in a mobile home park.”
The bill, if passed, also would prohibit municipalities from banning permanent living in fifth-wheel trailers in mobile home parks.
“If someone’s living in an RV in a dead end cul-de-sac or in a park, that’s a different story,” Springer said. “We’re only talking here about legally constituted mobile home parks.”
