Renovated DeSoto SP campground set to open

FORT PAYNE - "Bigger and better" is how Ken Thomas describes DeSoto State Park's campground after the completion of $3 million in improvements over the last year.

And DeSoto provides families with an inexpensive way to relax and enjoy the outdoors without having to leave the state, said Thomas, the park superintendent.

"We're offering the best economical deal we can."

Located on 3,000 acres of woodlands atop Lookout Mountain near Fort Payne, the park will open 34 of its 94 campsites on March 13 and the rest in early April. The first group of sites available will include 23 pull-through types for recreational vehicles. A total of 13 pull-through sites have been added since the campground was closed.
