Interest in RVs looking up

Are RVs recession-proof?

So goes the early assessment following a recent four-day recreational vehicle show at the Birch Run Expo Center.

"It was unexpected, but we had a really good show," said Dennis Anderson, marketing manager for the General RV Center, 12410 Dixie in Birch Run Township. "It's something you can't really put your finger on, given the how the economy is."

Mike Lash, sales manager of Hamilton's RV, said the customer traffic is a bit of buyer rebellion.

"People are sick and tired of hearing about how bad it is, and some of them feel comfortable with making the decision to buy now," said Lash, who said sales at the show increased 10 percent compared with 2008. His outlet is at 1580 Tittabawassee in Kochville Township.

"We did better than last year, which is pretty amazing."
