Stories wanted about Abilene State Park

As part of the upcoming 75th Anniversary Celebration of Abilene State Park, the park's Friends organization, a nonprofit group set up to provide monetary and volunteer support, issued an invitation to the public, asking for stories of interesting park happenings.

Few people owned brownie cameras when the park opened in 1934. Because of the financial worries of the Great Depression and the rationing of the World War II years, park officials have found little pictorial history.

Oral history interviews provide one way to fill the gaps in any official story, especially the ones of the construction of the park and its role in people's lives.
