Tornadoe sweep through Eastern Iowa Campground

From the entrance to Flying Squirrel Campground at Pinicon Ridge County Park near Central City, David Mason could see his own camping trailer. But he couldn’t be sure about his son’s, which was somewhere among the uprooted trees and wreckage strewn across the site.

“It seems like the first time every spring, you always get this weather,” said Mason.
Fortunately for Mason and his family, intermittent rain Sunday afternoon convinced them to drive to a restaurant in Manchester rather than try to cook dinner outdoors.

In their absence, the fitful weather turned violent, downing large trees and destroying at least three large campers in the campground — it was difficult to tell just how many with all the debris.
