Recreation changes along Illinois River road

Terry Richard, The Oregonian May 22, 2009 11:16AM
The Illinois River Road Recreational Area in southern Oregon is open this season with some changes designed to improve day use and camping along the Illinois River corridor downstream from Cave Junction.

This year, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is charging $10 at the following campgrounds along the Illinois River: Six Mile, River Bench, Store Gulch and Little Falls (which is on the Eight Dollar Road).

All proceeds from these campground charges will be used to clean up and maintain these popular campgrounds along the Illinois River corridor.

For 2009, public donations will be accepted by the Forest Service at the Six Mile Day Use Area to benefit the site.

The following campgrounds will remain at no charge for public use: Josephine (which is on the Eight Dollar Road), Echo, Illinois River Trailhead, Snailback and Horn Bend.
