RVers find top-shelf amenities at new RV Resort

When Brenda and Lewis Wesley saw a sign for a new recreational vehicle resort two hours away, they knew they had found their long-desired weekend getaway.

Few RV parks in South Florida could accommodate the needs of their 40-foot luxury home-away-from-home – and even fewer had the top-shelf amenities that offer the vacation lifestyle they like to experience. Many parks are also aging badly or have been sold for their land development potential.

The Royal Palm Beach couple both work full-time, so something nearby was important, said Brenda Wesley, a nurse. “We can’t drive four to five hours to be at a park on weekends. Buying a lot so we can drive our RV 60 miles to relax in a vacation environment on a lake is perfect.”

Banking on the idea that there were plenty of RV owners like the Wesleys – in Florida, Canada, the Midwest and the Northeast – Bill Harvey began to develop the Silver Palms RV Village a half-mile from the northern tip of Lake Okeechobee in July 2008. While he had developed several commercial properties in Florida prior to this and expanded the Cross Creek RV Resort rental community in Arcadia, which he purchased, Silver Palms is his first RV resort built from scratch – and during a recession.
