Campground owner enjoys helping campers have fun

NOVA -- On a recent Friday, Pam McCreary made her rounds at Country Stage Campground on Township Road 1031 in northern Ashland County. Fridays and Saturdays can be 20-hour days at the park.

She and her husband, Todd, bought the park last year. They own the campground at the back of the property and hope someday to purchase the Country Stage Music Park portion that fronts to Township Road 1031. For now, the two facilities function as separate entities.

The McCrearys have their hands full keeping things running smoothly, making improvements and, above all, keeping their campers happy.

Pam McCreary took time from her busy schedule to show off the campground. As she navigated her golf cart past rows of neatly -- if not elaborately -- landscaped RVs, McCreary explained that she and Todd always loved the outdoors, especially hiking and canoeing. Buying the campground has afforded them an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and help others enjoy it, too.

She referred to her seasonal campers' RVs as "middle class summer homes."

"It was a goal of ours, to see how you can live in the country and still afford groceries," McCreary said.

She clearly enjoys doting on her campers. McCreary said that, rather then handing them a map of the campgrounds when they check in, she prefers to escort them to their campsites and help them get settled in.
