Vacationers Roughing it in RVs

Walking into some of the RVs on the lot at Ben's RV Center in Springettsbury Township feels a bit like walking into a nice hotel room, with that new-carpentry smell and a finely polished glean in kitchens and bathrooms.

And actually, the more upscale models, on average, seem to be outselling less expensive models recently, salesman Cory Decker said late last month.

Some in higher-income brackets are seeing campers as a less expensive way to travel over the long run -- especially once it is paid off -- instead of flying each year to a destination and staying in a hotel room.

But they still want amenities, possibly resulting in the interest in higher-end models, Decker said.
