Ultra Light Travel Trailers Selling Well for Coachmen

MIDDLEBURY, Ind. — Coachmen has the ultra light travel trailer market covered, and their sales trends clearly demonstrate that the Captiva Ultra-Lite™ and Capri Micro™ ultra light travel trailers are leading the industry.

For the first six months of 2007, retail sales of the redesigned Captiva Ultra-Lite trailer are up 138 percent over the same period in 2006. The Capri Micro trailer, which was just introduced this year, is also experiencing rapid growth. Coachmen's combined ultra light travel trailer sales are up nearly 61 percent, with nearly 1,000 retail unit sales since the first of the year. The booming sales of ultra lights have boosted Coachmen’s total retail sales of travel trailers by more than 23 percent, which is significantly outpacing the 5.6 percent increase in travel trailer sales for the industry.

What makes the Captiva Ultra-Lite and the Capri Micro ultra lights so popular is the fact that many light duty SUVs and pickups can tow them. In fact, many mini vans and crossover vehicles are amply rated to tow the Capri Micro trailer.

Capri Ultra-Light

"While these two trailer lines are lightweight, they are still big on space. There is plenty of interior and exterior storage, and they come packaged with practical features and a lot of WOW factor," commented Kelly Cummins, product manager for Coachmen’s Captiva Ultra-Lite and Capri Micro trailers. "These products are ideal for empty nesters or young families who like to camp but don't want the extra expense of buying a heavy-duty tow vehicle. Such light weight trailers are also very versatile."

The Captiva Ultra-Lite trailer has base weights from just under 4,000 pounds to just over 5,000 pounds. The Capri Micro trailer's base weight begins at 2,500 pounds. Both lines employ laminated construction on all six sides and Alumicage™ framing to create a trailer that is lightweight, yet durable.

The Captiva Ultra-Lite trailer offers nine different floorplans. Two of the floorplans are new for 2008: the 291QBS with its queen bed, quad bunks and living area slideout, and the 280RLS with a rear lounge featuring two barrel chairs, a sofa and a corner entertainment center. The Captiva line's MSRPs range from $19,173 to $21,273.

The Capri Micro trailer is available in three innovative floorplans with exterior lengths ranging from 13 feet to 18 feet. The trailer has everything a camper needs; and at 36 gallons has the largest fresh water capacity in its class, making the Capri Micro ultra light ideal for wilderness getaways. Adding to the Capri Micro trailer's appeal is its affordable price. The MSRP on this trailer ranges from $13,930 to $14,553.
